BSNL provides wifi modem in colloboration with router
manufacturers like Nokia-siemens,Teracom etc. Modem works well in
wired connection as well as in short range(100m) wifi connection with
laptops,PDA and tablets. But sometimes, the wifi connection is denied
by the router. This may due to many reasons like wrong PP0e
configuration, poorly configured router etc.
Recently, when i tried to tweak my friend's new teracom wifi
router to connect it with Samsung Start II wifi mobile. I tried changing
the ip,gateway, subnet, changing the wifi protected to open
connection, but in vain. But the wifi connection in my Nokia- Siemens
router works well without any problem.
One day, i checked and play with all the settings of my wifi
router, it seems like i have accidentally changed the MAC filter settings
as enabled. After that, my wifi connection seems not working with any
laptops or mobiles. Viola! I found the reason for the denial of wifi
connection to myself and my friend as well. Here the interesting fact is
that wifi connection is denied, even if you enable the MAC filter in
BLACKLIST mode or WHITE LIST mode unless you add mac address to
the list. That is ,it does not allow any new wifi connection if you enabled
either of them.
To change the settings follow the steps:
1.Open your browser and point it to ip 192.168.1.1
(192.168.1.1 is the default gateway address,if you changed this, the
above ip will not show anything. To find the ip of your router, just open
command prompt and type ipconfig, you will get default gateway
address which can be used instead of above ip)
2. Give the username and password, default is admin for both.
3. Find the MAC filter option, this option location varies based on the routers, it commonly found under the security options of your router.
4. Change it to disabled. Reboot your router. Thats it.
